I regularly undertake repairs to book text blocks for private collectors across the North East region as well as for professional antiquarian booksellers.
This book had unfortunately been dropped on the floor. There were large tears to the end paper, prelims and the first engraving.
Treatment
Cleaning away mould and dirt, removing the torn and stuck paper to re-attach, repairing the tear so that the pages are strong enough to withstand handling and the natural flow of the page is restored. Damaged facing paper removed and replaced with archival quality Japanese paper to protect print from brown oil-based inks in text on opposite page.
